A hopper window is hinged at the bottom and opens by tilting into the room at the top. A hopper is usually for ventilation and when glazed with obscure glass, can provide both ventilation and privacy in a bathroom. Banks of hopper windows are a favorite in schools but are also an excellent choice for interiors with high ceilings and tall window expanses, or above other window types. When mounted above a door, hopper windows are called transom windows.
