A casement window is hinged at the side and typically swings outward like a door (a casement can also open into the room, but this is less common). A casement window is attached to its jamb by two or more hinges and is held open using a casement stay arm or by the hinges themselves. Casement windows can be used singly, in a “bank” of multiple windows, or in combination with a picture window.
